This project was designed with a view to thoroughly renovating the municipal theater of Sao Carlos, in the interior of Sao Paulo, named Teatro Municipal Alderico Vieira Perdigao.
The emphasis was given to the public role of the theater, by integrating its accesses through ramps and stairs, which give permeability to the building. Such an interpretation resulted in the transformation of the construction, originally an arena-like theater and an Italian stage, into an integrated set with a strong urban meaning, with seating for 900 people.
Whereas the number of seats in the theater and the size of the stage remained the same, a foyer was added, compatible with the theater capacity, as well as a block for production activities. The theater also gained new resources, such as a bar on the same floor as the ticket office, an access for trucks to the scenery workshops, dressing-rooms and rest-rooms, all in accordance with the theater re-structuring and an entire reorganization of the building’s activities.
