Fleury laboratory: technical and administrative unit - Sao Paulo
The title of this project - "Horizon Project" - encompasses the owner´s aim: to automate the processes of clinical analysis.
The criteria for setting up this program allow the comprehension of the laboratory´s operations. The strategic goals of the company with the data analysis established the project parameters in order to achieve an excellence in services to keep up with the international market in this ssegment of business.
Flexible installations and premises were the solution presented to meet this demand, placed on large slabs in order to shelter any operational system with ease. The program is composed of:
Educational Center: classrooms, training rooms, library and venues for 200 seats and administrative offices for 150 users;
Technical Center: Laboratories (automation, semi-automation, manual) and refrigerated rooms
Services: cafeteria, snack-bar, stock-room, dressing-room, outpatient department, utility room (air conditioning and heating, electricity and hydraulic systems).
The 4,500 m2 slab was the reference plan to implement each block - administrative and technical - with its 3 floors. The 2 blocks were connected by the vertical and horizontal center: 5 elevators, stairwells and the large internal corridors.
In the technical block, the complexity and possibility of the expansion of its infra-structure premises implied in a height of 4,5 m, of which 1,5 m were available for the installations.
In each of the pillars - with spans of 8 x 8 m - run along the installation networks. Each pillar face corresponds to one system: hydraulics, electricity, telecommunications and fluids.
The large and important existing vegetation on the site oriented the construction of retaining walls to contain structural platforms. The landscape project took advantage of this situation to develop gardens and yards: the water feature, the silk cotton tree yard and the jaboticaba tree yard (a local fruit).
Specific solutions were given to deal with issues regarding accoustic insulation: frames, glass, cladding and waterproofing. The architectural project approached the thermal issue with building elements, decisive for heat control in the construction: brise-soleils to shade the façades, north-oriented; frames and insulated glass panels according to specifications; window-ledges; insulated floors; and slabs surrounded by gardens.
